Clarifying

Water clarification is the primary technological stage of its preparation for further use.This method allows to remove suspended and colloidal particles from the foul water, that change its color, making it opaque.

Water clarification technology can be used using the following basic methods:

  • Sedimention in a sump;

  • filtration;

  • flotation and coagulation.

At the sedimentation stage, suspended and colloidal particles settle to the bottom of the sump under the impact of gravity. The rate of settling of particles depends on their size and shape, degree of contamination and water temperature, its velocity in the sump.Settling is carried out in horizontal, vertical or radical settling tanks. The method allows to remove relatively large inclusions from the water (0.1-0.01 mm.)

During the filtration process, the purified water passes through the granular structure of the filter and is cleaned from suspended particles contained in it. Two physical processes are the basis of this purification method: adhesion and suffusion. Adhesion causes the adhesion of contaminants to the grains of filter's granular loading. Under the pressure of the water, part of the “adhering” particles are disconnected and retained in the filter drains at subsequent stages of purification.

To improve the quality and remove fine and colloidal substances, сoagulation, flotation, and sedimentation methods are used. For this purpose, chemical reagents - coagulants and flocculants are added to the contaminated water. Interacting with the smallest colloidal particles in the water, coagulants form aggregates of adhered particles. Flocculants combine this aggregated matter into larger formations – flakes that combined with each other precipitate as large agglomerates.

Dynamic clarification technology
Purpose: removal of suspended, colloidal substances from the water, heavy metal ions, petroleum products, nitrogen and phosphate compounds, normalization of BOD, COD, permanganate oxidation and organoleptics.
